PIASA Latest News about us MEMBERSHIP CONFERENCES AWARDS PUBLICATIONS CONTACT The Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America (PIASA) is pleased to announce its 2020 award recipients: The Ludwik Krzyżanowski Award for best article published in The Polish Review in 2019: Dr. Anna Krakus, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cross Cultural and Regional Studies, University of Copenhagen, for “Death is Merely a Comma: Immortality in the Cinema and Literature of Tadeusz Konwicki” (vol. 64, no. 4). The Susanne Lotarski Distinguished Achievement Award: Dr. Anna Frajlich-Zając, Senior Lecturer Emerita of Polish Language and Literature, Columbia University for her many contributions to Polish culture in poetry, prose, and literary studies extending over several decades. The Casimir Funk Natural Sciences Award: Dr. Henryk Iwaniec, Professor of Mathematics, Rutgers University, for his outstanding contributions to analytic number theory. The Oskar Halecki Polish History Award: Dr. Dominic A. Pacyga, Professor Emeritus, Columbia College (Chicago), for his book American Warsaw: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of Polish Chicago (University of Chicago Press, 2019). The Tadeusz Sendzimir Applied Sciences Award: Dr. Władek Minor, Harrison Distinguished Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics, University of Virginia and Dr. Zbyszek Otwinowski, Professor of Biochemistry, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, for their development of software for the medical applications of crystallograghy and their entrepreneurship in promoting its distribution. The Wacław Lednicki Award in the Humanities: Dr. Grażyna J. Kozaczka, Distinguished Professor of English, Cazenovia College, for her book Writing the Polish American Woman in Postwar Ethnic Fiction (Ohio University Press, 2019). The Bronisław Malinowski Award in the Social Sciences: Dr. Anna Grzymala-Busse, Michelle and Kevin Douglas Professor of International Studies, Stanford University, for her outstanding scholarship on the development and transformation of the state, political parties, religion and politics, and post-communist politics in Poland and East-Central Europe. PIASA Latest News about us MEMBERSHIP CONFERENCES AWARDS PUBLICATIONS CONTACT Award 2018 The Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America is pleased to announce and congratulate its 2018 Award Recipients in seven categories PIASA Distinguished Achievement Award: Dr. Jan Kubik, Rutgers University and University College London The Oskar Halecki Polish History Award: Dr. Paul Knoll, University of Southern California, for his book “A Pearl of Powerful Learning”: The University of Cracow in the Fifteenth Century (Brill, 2016). The Casimir Funk Natural Sciences Award: Dr. Krzysztof Palczewski, University of California, Irvine, for his outstanding research contributions to ophthalmology. The Bronislaw Malinowski Social Sciences Award: Dr. Evgeny Finkel, The Johns Hopkins University, for his book Ordinary Jews: Choice and Survival during the Holocaust (Princeton University Press, 2018). The Waclaw Lednicki Humanities Award: Ewa Hryniewicz-Yarbrough, for her book of essays, Objects of Affection (Braddock Avenue Books, 2018). The Tadeusz Sendzimir Applied Sciences Award: Dr. Tomasz Imielinski, Rutgers University, for his outstanding contributions to computer science and its applications. The Ludwik Krzyzanowski Polish Review Award: Dr. Adam Chmielewski, University of Wroclaw, for his article “Rethinking a Central European City” (vol. 62, no. 2, 2017). The Recipients will be officially recognized and receive their during its annual banquet the evening of June 15, 2019 at the PIASA Seventh World Congress in Gdansk, Poland. Professor of the Year

PIASA Latest News about us MEMBERSHIP CONFERENCES AWARDS PUBLICATIONS CONTACT Professor of the Year The Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia on March 17, 2015 honored five finalists for the 2014 Professor of the Year Award which honors an outstanding faculty member at a West Virginia college or university. PIASA member, Lisa Di Bartolomeo, was named First Runner-up for this honor and received a cash award of $2,500. Dr. Di Bartolemeo is the Armand E. and Mary W. Singer Professor in the Humanities and Director of Slavic and Eastern European Studies at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. Professor Di Bartolomeo was the first recipient of PIASA’s Ambassador Kazimierz Dziewanowski Memorial Dissertation Award in 2002 for her doctoral dissertation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, “Other Visions: Krzysztof Kieslowski’s ‘Trzy Kolory’ Trilogy.” Our warm congratulations!
