PIASA contributes to the cause of Ukrainian Refugees in Poland
The Polish Institute of Arts & Sciences of America (PIASA) announced today that PIASA will donate $5,000 to Unicef to assist that organization’s efforts on behalf of Ukrainian refugees in Poland. PIASA is making this grant to demonstrate that we “are unequivocally with the Ukrainian people in this time of crisis. Poles and Polish Americans know what it is like to stand against oppression – both alone and together with others. Ukraine does not stand alone.”
PIASA is an academic, cultural organization founded in 1942 in New York City at the height of World War II. When founded and now, PIASA’s purpose is to serve as a repository of culture, intellectual progress, and freedom for the Polish nation and for all humanity.
PIASA has approximately 1,200 regular members drawn primarily from the academic community (scholars and scientists) and from the arts and professions. Currently, these include Nobel laureates Dr. Frank Wilczek of MIT and Dr. Roald Hoffman of Cornell University; in the recent past they included Czeslaw Milosz, Andrew Schally, Isaac Bashevis Singer, and Zbigniew Brzezinski, Anna Cienciala, Rachel Feldhay Brenner, among others. There is also a sustaining membership open to all who are interested in supporting the goals and mission of the Polish Institute. PIASA is non-profit and tax exempt under Section 501(c).
